2007/08 was a season that promised much, but in the end didn’t quite happen. Beset by injuries to key players, the team battled on to make the best out of difficult circumstances with some great individual and team displays. As the planning for 08/09 begins, no end of season would be complete without some cheesy love-in style awards, so here are this season’s runners and riders:
PLAYERS' PLAYER OF THE SEASON
1st: JOHN SHEEHAN
"Shee picked up where he left off last season. He was consistently our best performer all season, and chipped in with 12 goals from midfield. His monkey dance performance at Fisher's wedding had to be the clincher for him!"
2nd: JON WARD
"Another strong season from Wardy, who once again put 100% into every challenge and drove the team on from the back. Scored a couple of crucial goals too."
3rd: CHRIS PEACOCK & ANDREW WALKER
"It was impossible to split Big P and Peck for third, as both were immense all season. Chris ran himself into the ground every match, and Peck once again showed his qualities as the club's Mr Consistent. Well done to both."
CLUB MAN OF THE SEASON:
TIMMY 'MAGIC' SMITH
"The Magic man was not only Paul Daniels-eqsue on the pitch, but also a true pro off the pitch. Always at training, and willing to run the line when not on the pitch, Magic was an unsung star of the season."
MANAGER'S PLAYER OF THE SEASON:
"Rob was totally commited to the cause this season. Willing to play just about anywhere on the pitch, Daisy turned in a number of great performances. And Jimmy loves him."
MOST IMPROVED PLAYER OF THE SEASON:
"Hands down this man deserves the award. James got better and better as the season went on and deserved his starting place...he would've been even better if he hadn't of maimed that Harpenden player in our box!"
GLOBAL GOLDEN BOOT:
CHRIS PEACOCK & JOHN SHEEHAN
"Both Big P and Shee chalked up 12 goals as they spearheaded the Global scoring charts. Chris was back to his best, and Shee rarely failed to hit the target"
GOAL OF THE SEASON:
SIMON LUCAS v Sandridge Rovers 'A'
"A complete miss-hit but Si's strike was pretty sweet. Now can we never talk of this again!"
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD:
"What more can be said about a true club legend? Dyl always gave his all on the pitch, and as Bournemouth tour leader was never found wanting in the drinking stakes. A great shame he's retiring, but at his age it's probably for the best. Well played Dylan!"
