With the 2005/06 season over, it was time to recognise those in the squad who have reached the heights during the last campaign; those who have led by example and those who have played a great part in making this season a successful one. Below are the winners and some of the reasons for their nomination...
PLAYERS' PLAYER OF THE SEASON
1st: DAVE GREEN
Dave collects his award from fellow black shirt union member Si
"Superb throughout the entire season, took on a huge responsibility being a new man to the team, solid throughout. The whole team felt more confident knowing Dave was in goal, and he kept us in so many games with countless great stops. Well Played."
2nd: CERI DIX
The Ferdinand and Terry of the Mid Herts League, or is it Cygan and Campbell?!!
"So much more than just a superb defender, strong in the tackle, supreme in the air & first to every loose ball, Ceri was a positive motivating influence on all those around him...and an all round nice guy. At times he dominated entire games, be it in midfield or in defence. He fully deserves the plaudits."
3rd: SIMON LUCAS
Si could only help but admire Doug's pyjama top
"I'm not sure it is really possible to appreciate just how much work Si does at the unglamorous end of the field until you have played in goal. Time and again he was the player who got the crucial block in, or made the tackle that prevented the shot, often when the defence had been breached - Big Si would appear seemingly from nowhere - the 5th member of the mighty back 4. He gave 110% to every game and always got the team going when they needed it the most."
CLUB MAN OF THE SEASON:
Si congratulates himself on getting in another photo as Andy prepares to drink something which resembles chlorine
"A man whose commitment to the cause could never be doubted. Andy was there come rain or shine, week in, week out. Regardless of how late he was leaving work on a Saturday lunchtime he was always there, willing to play a different position every week, with no fuss whatsoever. Not only that, Andy's a genuinely sound bloke who never had a bad game and could always be relied upon to stand up and be counted."
MANAGER'S PLAYER OF THE SEASON:
Jon is distracted by the words 'St Albans City' and 'pitch invasion' from elsewhere in the room
"Another great season from the seasoned campaigner...solid as a (defensive) rock. Jon posesses the fighting spirit all good teams are built around, and commands the respect of every other member of the team for his commitment and fearless attitude."
MOST IMPROVED PLAYER OF THE SEASON:
Tim's vice like grip left Jon wincing
"Despite not having been a regular part of a football team prior to 2005/06, Tim grew in character, and went from strength to strength as the season progressed and his game came on leaps and bounds. A good player who will only continue to get better."
GLOBAL GOLDEN BOOT:
Chris shows off his superb new ginger bouffant as he collects his award from strike partner Doug
"Chris appeared as if from nowhere to establish himself as a Global cult hero very quickly. At times when we were struggling, you knew you could rely on Big P to produce a goal from nowhere and give us all 3 points. And his celebrations were always quality!"
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNERS AND WELL DONE EVERYONE ON A GOOD SEASON!!
We'll leave it to big P to have the final word...
"Here's me looking like a proper 'fox in the box'...well my hairs' the right colour anyway! I wonder if she'd like to see my matching cuffs..."
All because every woman loves to have a gay best friend!
SEE YOU NEXT SEASON!!
